What Is AFFF?

AFFF is a firefighting foam that has been widely used to combat fuel fires, especially in aviation and military settings. It contains per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). These are “forever chemicals” that have been linked to kidney cancer and other serious conditions.

The kidneys remove unwanted substances from the body, so it’s hypothesized that they accumulate PFAS over time, increasing the risk of cancer. The more exposure a person has to AFFF, the higher their chances of developing kidney cancer may be.

AFFF Kidney Cancer Lawsuits

An AFFF lawsuit provides the chance to recover compensation for financial losses you suffered if you were exposed to this substance, but who is eligible? To be able to file a lawsuit, you must be able to prove that you were exposed to AFFF directly or indirectly (i.e., via water contamination) and that you were diagnosed with kidney cancer.

The majority of plaintiffs in these claims are servicemen and women, as well as civilian firefighters, but civilian residents might also be eligible. If you lived in an area close to where AFFF was used, water and soil contamination could have impacted you negatively.
